Halloween would have been less sweet and fun in Echo Park and Montecito Heights if two neighborhood organizations did not get involved. In Montecito Heights, members of the Montecito Heights Improvement Assn. delivered more than 100 pounds of candy on Wednesday afternoon to the Montecito Heights Recreation Center in time for the center’s holiday celebration.  The association came up with the candy in response to a request for a donation from the center, said association member Martha Benedict.

Meanwhile, in Echo Park, Barlow Respiratory Hospital responded to a last-minute appeal for funds from the Echo Park Recreation Center to stage its annual Halloween celebration. “Barlow’s contribution paid for booths, canopies, chairs, helium, balloons and entertainment equipment that kept the Halloween tradition alive for this year,” the hospital said in a press release.
