Winds and dust fly across Elysian Valley

Today’s high winds are not only sending palm fronds and plastic bags flying. The gusts are also kicking up large clouds of dust at the former Taylor Yards rail yard in Cypress Park and blowing them across the Los Angeles River and into Elysian Valley, reports Diane Edwardson of the Corralitas Red Car Property blog. She snapped photos of the dust this morning from her vantage point in Silver Lake. “This level of dirt (particulate matter) can’t be healthy for anyone to breathe,” said Edwardson, who posted more photos on her blog.

  1. It was crazy windy yesterday. I took my usual jog/walk to the Tillie St. stairs and my eyes, on were red by the time I got home. Too much dust in the air, but awesome to see the falcons glide above my place. One sat on the electic wire and just hung on as the wire swung. Cool thing to see on a Monday afternoon.
