$50,000 reward offered in Boyle Heights murder

Nearly a year has passed since Emmanuel Vargas was fatally wounded after the 29-year-old was shot several times near a Boyle Heights Street corner on a weekday afternoon.  With police unable to identify suspects or a motive for the crime,  the City Council on Tuesday approved a $50,000 reward to help find Vargas’ killer.

“Detectives hope that a monetary reward compels members of the public to provide more information,” according to the motion introduced by Councilman Jose Huizar.

The immediate aftermath of the shooting was recounted by an Eastsider reader, who was across the street at a gas station at Fourth Street and Boyle Avenue when he noticed people running and a man lying face first in the street.

Police ask that anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact Hollenbeck Division homicide detectives at (323) 342-8953 or (323) 342-8996. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
