Bulletin Board: Small Business Expo focuses on growth

Local small businesses representing all industry sectors throughout LA County will participate in a Small Business Development Conference and Expo focusing on strategic planning to help grow their businesses. The event will be conducted in English with Spanish translation available. The conference will be held at the USC Health Sciences campus,  1969 Zonal Ave. (behind the USC+LAC Medical Center) in Boyle Heights on Thursday May 30, 2013 – from 7:30 AM to 1 PM.

The event will include three planetary interactive panels with banks, marketing consultants and business plan development specialists. (See panel descriptions below). In addition, there will be resource tables with government agency representatives available to business owners, allowing participants and agency reps to discuss one-on-one the process to gaining public contracting. Attendees will also have an opportunity to network with hundreds of other small business owners in a relaxed business setting on USC’ Boyle Heights campus.

The conference portion of the event will focus on three specific ways to apply strategic planning to operating and growing a small business.

Access to Capital: Panel members – US Bank, Southern California Edison Federal Credit Union, Wells Fargo and the Valley Economic Development Corporation.

Insights and methods to improve a commercial loan application for lending institutions by drawing on elements that better highlight your business. What banks are most looking for in an application for credit.

Business Plan Development: Suzanne Lawrence, presenting; How to Write a Memorable Business Plan Presentation Outline. Why use a plan? Discussion on; Knowing your market, key elements of a plan, knowing your competition, using forecasts, assembling your team, and constructing a bullet proof summary.

Marketing Ideas – LIVE: Local businesses will present their business and the expert duo of Edgar Mejia and Manuel Romero will present practical and innovative ideas to increase sales. Learn how many of these ideas will work for your business.

Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar, Council District 14 will kick off the morning sessions with his message of positive educational and informational opportunities for an expected crowd of 300.

Luncheon keynote speaker United States Congressman Xavier Becerra, 34th District will share with everyone the importance of small business to the U.S. economic recovery and what resources and policies may be coming from Washington, D.C. to support our local businesses.

The morning conference sessions and contract procurement resource expo are free of charge. Discounted parking ($8) is available at the adjacent parking structure off Biggy Street (Please see map). Street parking is limited but enforcement will be relaxed at the selected streets also designated on the map.
