Dodger Stadium is not just for baseball anymore

Soccer is coming to the Dodger ballpark for the first-time ever. The team announced earlier this week that it will host an international soccer “double-header”  on Aug. 3 featuring the Los Angeles Galaxy and teams from Britain, Italy and Spain. Soccer joins the  monster truck and motorcycle races, hockey  matches, concerts and other non-baseball events at the stadium.  Apparently 81 days of baseball is not enough for the new owners. Dodgers President Stan Kasten, according to KPCC, said:

“We don’t have to be restricted to just 81 baseball games and post season, we can bring in world class events like concerts, world class events like hockey and certainly world class events like soccer,” he said. “That’s what we’re all about — bringing more events to Los Angeles fans and Dodger fans.”

Will soccer fans prove to be as good for Echo Park’s bar business as Dodger fans? We will find out in August.

  1. Can’t wait. This plus the Winter Classic, it is an exciting time to be a sports fan in LA.

  2. Until demolition derbies and the lingerie football league schedule shows, I’ll stick to the boob tube.

The Dodgers conditional use permit specifically stats that the stadium is only for baseball….never really understood how all the extra events have been allowed.
