The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council is trying to drum up community support for an outdoor movie series, with the first film, the family-friendly “Finding Nemo,” scheduled to be screened on Saturday night at the Highland Park Recreation Center.  Whether there will be  more “Movie Under The Stars” events depends on the turn out and response to the first film, council member Aaron Salcido.  Said Salcido:

We are hoping to make this event as big of a success as possible so that we can gain community support to fund a whole series of these in the summer. They’re expensive to put on (our neighborhood council budgets are pitiful) but we feel that if we get a large turnout we can get the city to pitch in to make more of these events in Highland Park a reality this summer. We’re hoping a high attendance this Saturday will create interest for potential sponsors for the summer.

Saturday’s “Movie Under The Stars” is free and begins at 7:30 p.m.
