Hermon supermarket finds steady work as a TV extra

Part of a GEICO Super Bowl commercial featuring Dikembe Mutombo was shot at Fresco market in Hermon.

Not many people outside of Hermon or Monterey Hills know of Fresco Community Market, a small but stylish supermarket  that opened more than two years ago in a shopping center off of Via Marisol.  But countless TV viewers may have caught glimpses of the market thanks to more than a dozen commercials that have been shot in the store, including a Super Bowl ad for GEICO that featured former NBA player Dikembe Mutombo swatting a cereal box across a  grocery store aisle.

There was another commercial shoot at the market last week.  Why is Fresco such a popular filming location?  Store owner Jon Muraga explained why in the most recent  “All Things Hermon” newsletter:

Jon Murga of Fresco Community Market said that all the trucks and excitement last Thursday was the filming of a detergent commercial at the market for Tide’s “secret” new product, coming soon.  He explained that the film industry really loves Fresco because of how the interior looks hip, and not commercialized.

A total of 13 commercials have been filmed so far at the market.

  1. This Fresco carries bread and bakery goods from B1 Breadshop! B1 is a top notch local L.A. bakery and their breads and pastries are excellent. Fresco also carries Homeboy chips and salsa, yay!

  2. Love that market! After FigPro started sucking, I went over to Fresco and never thought about any other market.

    Go Fresco!

  3. I work in reality TV, and we shot a scene there as well. Great place to shoot for any producers looking for a spot.

  4. Annoyed customer

I made the mistake of attempting to do my grocery shopping on this day. Several aisles were blocked off making shopping impossible. When I complained they made a big production of stopping the entire shoot so I could get my items. The cameras, cords, equipment were everywhere as I awkwardly grabbed my stuff. I am a fan of this store, but was very annoyed by this experience. Shoot after hours next time!
