Police seeking motorist in fatal Silver Lake hit-and-run

The LAPD’s Central Traffic Division is asking the public to help find the driver of a pick-up truck who fatally struck a 62-year-old man as he walked across Sunset Boulevard at Maltman Avenue.  The victim, Rogelio Vera, was in the crosswalk when he was hit on the evening of Friday, May 17 by what witnesses described as  as a newer model, blue or black, Ford F-250 or F-350 crew cab pick-up truck, according to an LAPD press release.

“The driver of this vehicle failed to stop and provide identification or render aid as required by law,” the LAPD said. “The truck was last seen traveling east on Sunset Boulevard.”

Vera, who sustained extensive blunt force injuries,  died on May 29 at a hospital where he had remained since he was run down.

Anyone with information regarding this crime or the suspect vehicle is urged to call Central Traffic Division Detective Kaden at (213) 972-1837, or Detective J. Mapson at (213) 972-1825.
