Storefront Report: New Silver Lake fitness center focuses on old-school gym work outs

What is all that grunting and groaning going on next to the L&E Oyster Bar on Silver Lake Boulevard?

It’s most likely the customers at the new Phys. Ed Studio operated by Rob Johnsen and trainer Micah McKinley. Their small Silver Lake fitness center features an “old-school” gym work out. What does that involve? Johnsen explains:

We believe in a getting ‘back to basics’ fitness routine, with an emphasis on fun, old-school gym workouts, like lunges and jump-rope. We believe in form and finesse and making sure that our clients have the proper stature while doing their workouts, making sure to correct their positions during each exercise. We do a lot of core work, with pushups, planks and situps, as well as a lot of work on our bosu balls and resistance training.”

In addition to offering small classes of five or six people, Phys. Ed Studio also offers one-on-one training.
