Police chase of shooting suspects ends in Atwater Village

atwatershootTwo suspects in a Glassell Park shooting were apprehended early this morning following a police chase that ended in North Atwater Village.

The incident began after a shooting took place near Drew Street in Glassell Park, prompting officers to pursue a vehicle that eventually crashed in North Atwater Village, said Sgt. David Armas with Northeast Division.  After a foot pursuit and search involving the K-9 Unit,  both suspects were apprehended and a gun recovered, Armas said.

One of the suspects was bitten by a police dog. No injuries were reported as a result of the Glassell Park shooting, which officers believe involved gang members, he added.

One Atwater resident said numerous squad cars converged near the Brunswick Avenue and Chevy Chase Drive at about 2 a.m. as a police helicopter hovered overhead for at least an hour.
