Smart Car smashes into side of Echo Park’s Brite Spot cafe; no major injuries

A silver Smart Car slammed into the front of the Brite Spot restaurant in Echo Park late this afternoon, demolishing a bench and damaging a wall but causing no major injuries.

The car was turning right on to Sunset Boulevard from Park Avenue when the driver swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, said an LAPD traffic officer at the scene. The car drove off the street and across the sidewalk before smashing into a wall near the front doors of the Sunset Boulevard restaurant at about 5 p.m.  The driver was standing by her car and did not appear to suffer any major injuries.  The officer said no pedestrians were injured.

A silver restaurant bench, however, was smashed to pieces.

  6. SUNSET BLVD. NEEDS A TRAFFIC DIET !!!!!! WE HAVE TO SLOW THAT TRAFFIC DOWN !!!! SOMEONE WILL GET HURT !!!!! i suggest one lane in each direction. that should solve the problem. 🙂

    • Uh, yeah, 1 lane in each direction on a major throughway throughout the entire city of los angeles, that won’t cause traffic congestion to get worse or anything….

    • *(Sunset Boulevard needs a traffic diet! We have to slow that traffic down! Someone will get hurt! I) suggest one lane in each direction. (That) should solve the problem. (Haha).

    • Sunset Blvd already had a road diet. Why do you think it has those center/left turn lanes and bike lanes? It used to be three travel lanes in each direction, and now it’s down to two.

      • *Sunset (Boulevarde) already (has) a road diet. Why do you think it has (left) turn lanes and bike lanes? It used to be three travel lanes in each direction(. N)ow it’s down to two.

  7. Yikes. Prior to EP Lake reopening, i would often sit on that bench with a good book and watch the streetlife. Glad the park is open again.

    Slow the hell down folks.

  8. How smart is that ? A little to smart for there own good. I use to have breakfast there before work, back when the food tasted a bit better and was less pricy of course. Never have I seen a car smash into that place, I guess it’s a sign of the times.

  13. I am thinking Sean Pearse, is the idiot that ran his smart car into the damn Brite Spot! That is why he has an inferiority complex, and keeps correcting everyone. Sean, why don’t you correct the spelling of the “Bright Spot”, as well?

    • What? This is great! Sean Pearse is a terrific resource! I’m going to post my research papers in this comments section! I’m looking forward to the grammar checks!
