Sponsored Post: Controlling High Blood Pressure with Exercise and Diet

Hypertension is “a common condition in which the force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease,” according to the MayoClinic.com.  Hypertension is commonly known as “high blood pressure”.

Nearly a third of American adults have high blood pressure and approximately one in five are not aware they have the condition because there are few noticeable symptoms.

If you’re overweight, a smoker, overly stressed, or have a family history of hypertension it’s worth visiting your doctor to have your blood pressure checked. If you learn that you have high or elevated blood pressure, your doctor will likely prescribe medication to manage your condition. In addition to taking medication, research indicates greater success controlling blood pressure when the diet is modified and a regular exercise program, designed for those with hypertension, is started and maintained.

An exercise program should be pre-approved by a doctor and certain types of exercise and training, such as heavy weight lifting, can be dangerous and should probably be avoided.

Eating the right foods, along with getting sufficient exercise and reducing stress, increase success at controlling your blood pressure.
