Occidental College reaches financial settlement over sexual assault cases

Occidental College will pay an undisclosed amount to a group of current and former female students who claimed the Eagle Rock college had mishandled reports of sexual assaults, the L.A. Times reports.

The college reached a settlement with at least 10 women who are among those who filed a federal complaint against the school earlier this year, alleging campus officials discouraged them from reporting sexual assaults, mislead students about their rights and retaliated against those who complained about the handling of the cases. A total of 50 complaints have been received.
