A sign of East L.A. takes a hit

East Los Angeles sign knocked off its foundation/C.J. Salgado.

Sign in better days/C.J. Salgado

A “Bienvenidos East Los Angeles” monument sign on Beverly Boulevard was run down this weekend by a vehicle that careened more than 50 feet across the median strip, reports C.J. Salgado. This is what Salgado found on Sunday morning when he checked the scene on Beverly Boulevard near Gerhart Street:

There were various car parts strewn about, oil and tire streaks on the floor, and at least two fallen sign posts, besides the “Bienvenidos, East Los Angeles” sign which was severed from its foundation. The vehicle involved may have been a Ford Mustang, guessing from a wheel cover at the site  … Time for a new sign. Wonder how long that will take?

The L.A. County Sheriffs Department did not have any details about the incident, Salgado said.

  1. It was probably run over by a Silver Lake realtor tired of competing for the name “Eastside”.
