AT&T would like to install a new cell phone antenna atop a two-story El Sereno apartment building at 2448 Eastern Avenue. The trouble is that the top of the antenna would be a few inches taller than 37-feet in an area where zoning limits structures to only 30 feet in height. That’s why a zoning hearing has been scheduled for Oct.22 to review AT&T’s request to build higher than current rules allow. According to a public hearing notice:
Pursuant to Section 12.24-W,49 of the Los Angeles Municipal Code, a Conditional Use to permit the installation, use and maintenance of an unmanned wireless telecommunications facility consisting of twelve panel antennas in three sectors and one GPS antenna located behind screens on the exterior portion of the roof of an existing apartment building in the [Q]RD5-1D Zone; and Pursuant to Section 12.27-B of the Municipal Code, a Zone Variance to permit a height of 37 feet 3 inches for a wireless telecommunications facility in lieu of the 30 feet otherwise permitted pursuant to Ordinance No. 180,403.
