Police release drawing of suspect who may be connected to Gatto killing

suspectPolice this afternoon released a rendering of a man who might be connected to the slaying of the father of  State Assemblyman Mike Gatto and as well as a separate assault near the victim’s Silver Lake home.

The community alert released by the LAPD said the suspect “maybe connected to a homicide” in the 2800 block of Bright Lane, where 78-year-old Joseph Gatto was found dead last Wednesday with a bullet wound in his abdomen. One day earlier, the same suspect may have been involved in an aggravated assault a few blocks away in which he pointed a handgun at a woman.

Police have previously said they were looking to see if the  suspect in the aggravated assault may be connected to the Gatto killing but have said it was one of several possible leads they were investigating.

The suspect is described as a male 5′-9″ tall and between the ages of 20 to 25. He was wearing a multi-colored hooded sweatshirt and tan pants and carrying a backpack on the day of the aggravated assault.

Anyone with information about the case or the suspect is asked to contact homicide detectives Barry Telis or Chris Gable (213) 486-6890 during business hours or the LAPD 24-hotline at (877) 527-3247.
