One dead in Glassell Park car crash

A 27-year-old man died after the car he was driving collided with another vehicle and overturned at the intersection of Verdugo Road and York Boulevard in Glassell Park intersection this afternoon, police said.

Diego Frias died from his injuries at Huntington Memorial Hospital; His passenger, Misty Site, 28 years old, sustained non-fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle, Raquel Ormeo, 64, was in stable condition with fractures to her ribs and back. All are residents of Los Angeles.

Police said Frias was driving his 2006 Kia Sorento southbound on Verdugo Road when he collided with a 2010 Honda Accord driven Ormeo at about 1:35 p.m., according to a press release from the LAPD’s Central Traffic Bureau. “The impact caused Frias’s vehicle to overturn and came to rest against a tree,” according to the release.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved pending toxicology reports, according to police. The Central Traffic Bureau is asking for any witnesses to the crash to call (213) 833-3713 or Detective Felix Padilla at (213) 486-0753.
