Water main break snarls traffic through Echo Park*

Traffic is jammed in Echo Park tonight after a water main broke near Glendale Boulevard and Effie Street, according to several reports on Twitter.  No details yet about when the water main will be repaired but Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, in a posting on his Twitter feed,  advised motorists to avoid the area for “several hours.”

Meanwhile, a No. 92 MTA bus that usually runs on Glendale Boulevard was temporarily stranded nearby on a steep street in Echo Park, according to a Twitter posting by Echo Park resident Jose Sigala. It’s not clear if the wayward bus was looking for an alternative to traffic-choked Glendale Boulevard but it made for a quite a site when it was stuck at the top of Fargo Street.

  1. Yes, traffic is a nightmare out there. Regarding the bus on top of the hill, some friends of mine used to live on Lake Shore Ave near Baxter. They said that one night when an awards show was on — I think it was the Oscars or Emmys — a big limo got stuck on top of the big hill on Baxter just west of Lake Shore. Apparently, after chuckling and taking a few pictures, people in the neighborhood helped the limo off the crown of the hill.

  2. As of ~8pm, Glendale Blvd. near Effie was one lane in each direction. Traffic was bad but it was a big improvement over the earlier total shutdown.

  3. Wish I would of known it took me exactly 40 min to get from the 2 fwy to sunset last night

  4. Really? this happened before, some years back. Water main broke on Glendale Blvd and a bus got stuck on the top of Baxter St. Maybe those streets should have a warning sign for busses!

  5. As of Sunday morning no water.
