Police seeking sexual assault victims of former Franklin High teacher

Police are looking for Franklin High students who may have been sexually assaulted by a teacher who worked at the Highland Park campus for nearly a decade.

Peter Christopher Gomez,  who had recently been a drama and history teacher at Bell Senior High School, was arrested over the weekend in connection with an alleged sexual assault  when Gomez taught at Franklin in 1999. Gomez worked at Franklin from 1996 until 2005, according to L.A. Now.

The LAPD Northeast Division today repeated requests seeking the public’s assistance in finding other students who might have also been assaulted by Gomez, now 47.  Gomez, who lives in La Habra,  was arrested for a felony sexual assault and his bail was set at $950,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call  Northeast Division Detectives Lina Teague or Michelle Gomez at  (323) 344-5742  or 1-877-LAPD-24-7 during non-business hours.  Anonymous tips can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

  1. I don’t know the facts or details of this case (since the article failed to tell us anything other than to highlight “SEX OFFENSE”). But I have a big problem with this coming 15 years later. If a person is innocent, how would they even be able to mount a defense? They probably wouldn’t have any idea what even happened that day or of any alibi they could use to show they didn’t do it. They wouldn’t have any idea of any other witnesses around, because who can remember who you were with every minute of every day from15 years ago. This kind of very late prosecution of something is the very way innocent people get found guilty.

  2. He’s not innocent. I had this clown for History. All they (the kids) talked about in that class where clubbing and his house parties.

The kids involved where known to be gay, and he was also clearly gay. I don’t know if any of it was unwilling, but it was definitely underage.

  3. I concur with Mark. Fifteen years to report is quite troubling. I would like to hear the details of how, what, why, where, when to better understand these allegations.

  4. Despite this incident having occurred more then 15 years ago I believe it has merit.

Gomez would frequently host “parties” and at a minimum facilitate access to inappropriate environments for minors.

It was a different time back then and kids didn’t have Facebook or Instagram , the “cool” kids were out looking for trouble and partying hard.

In Gomez’s defense everybody that attended these parties was a willing participant and you had to make a bona fide effort to attend , nobody was forced.

While nobody was coerced to attend , in retrospect , yes, it was in appropriate for a teacher to “party” with his students.

This stuff use to happen all the time back then , Franklin, Wilson, Eagle Rock…….

Most of us Just kept our mouth shut , cause in the end , no harm , no foul…….

Agghh some fun times back then ……
