Shopper & Diner: Cupid’s arrow hits Echo Park; Mariscos wash ashore in Eagle Rock; & El Sereno sweet and savory combo

Cupid has Echo Park set in his sights. Valerie Confections is offering an array of seasonal Valentine’s chocolates that will make you look good even if you waited ’till the last minute (yeah, you). The confectionery will also be making specialty “Valentine’s Day Pies”, which are a love-themed, Rhubarb-Strawberry hybrid treat.

  • Sparks are also flying at Allumette as it unleashes a specialty prix fixe menu in anticipation of the big day. Named as one of the 10 best new restaurants in Los Angeles by L.A. Magazine, this Echo Park Ave eatery has a menu of $45 for 4 courses and one of $60 for 5 courses.
  • “That’s amore!” as they say when that pizza pie hits your eye, or at least that what Tennessee-based DeSano Pizza Bakery is hoping for their new East Hollywood location.  Eater LA says the Santa Monica Boulevard and and Alexandria Avenue storefront is boasting four 10,000-pound pizza ovens.
  • Eater LA reports that mariscos will be making waves on Colorado Boulevard this summer as Jesse Gomez of Yxta Downtown, along with partner and chef, Jose Acevedo, plan to open the Mexican-concept Maradentro in Eagle Rock.
  • El Sereno’s Mama Churro y Mas is offering their Chicken N’ Churro combo, which includes 4 mini churros, two pieces of chicken, and one sauce at $4.99.
