Oliver’s Silver Lake Little Free Library # 12,336 is now officially open! Located at 2435 Ivanhoe Dr. in Silver Lake this library was designed and built by yours truly i.e. local artist and carpenter “Wowzy” and is part of the worldwide Little Free Library network founded in 2009 by Tod Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin.Tod built the first Little Free Library and placed it in his front yard as a tribute to his mother and it took off from there.
This is the second Little Free Library in Silver Lake and is a gift to the community thanks to the generosity of Silver Lake resident Harvey Seipp and his granddaughter Maia. Harvey a prolific reader and a lover of books was inspired after visiting the first LFL in Silver Lake on Lakeview Ave. built around 2012.
The design is a tribute to Oliver a formerly homeless black cat who had been taken care of by Harvey and several fellow neighbors along Ivanhoe Dr. over the past several years until he was finally given a permanent home and adopted by resident Mathew Brady and his wife Tami.
Wowzy, who built the library, is a cat lover and a big fan of the Little Free Library program, so he jumped at the chance to build one in Silver Lake and create something aesthetic that people would get a kick out of.
