HIGHLAND PARK — The Franklin High JROTC this morning unfurled a large American flag at the Veterans’ Memorial at corner of Figueroa Street and York Boulevard during one of several Eastside events planned for Memorial Day holiday. Pan dulce was served at the ceremony, which was attended by officials from the American Legion and Council District 1, said Nathan Solis, who snapped some photos of the event.

  1. That was the biggest flag I’ve ever seen. It felt like a monster movie, and the flag was going to swallow the whole city.

  2. I agree, the flag is the biggest flag I’ve ever seen. Maybe it’s the same size as the French flag that hangs under the Arch de Triomphe. It is quite majestic when it was flying with the wind blowing. The city or those in charge has done a good job with tree cuttings/trimmings, cleaning, and new plantings on this island. The old flag that used to fly there was a disgrace being all weathered and torn, but still flying.
