Shopper & Diner: Boyle Heights bar not going Hollywood; new Glassell Park farmers’ market; entrepreneurs get cooking in Lincoln Heights

Eastside Luv, Boyle Heights, bar

By Marni Epstein

BOYLE HEIGHTS — The Facebook page for  Eastside Luv Wine Bar Y Queso caused quite a stir earlier this week when it announced that the Boyle Heights bar has been sold to actor Esai Morales of NYPD Blue and La Bamba fame. While the rumor has caused a lot of speculation and quite a flurry of comments on Facebook, “Esai Luv” isn’t happening any time soon. The actor’s publicist said Morales is not going to become a Boyle Heights bar owner. It was all a gag that Morales unwittingly took part in and the bar remains under current ownership. If not a bar, perhaps Morales has an interest in a Reader Sponsorship? The Esai-er LA has a nice ring to it.
In other Shopper & Diner news:

  • Lincoln Heights is about to become a food mecca for local entrepreneurs, reports the LA Times. Civic Enterprise Development is transforming a warehouse into L.A. Prep, which will house nonprofit L.A. Kitchen and a food production business center  with commercial kitchens and training programs to help small businesses get their products to market.
  • If you’re looking to get your hands dirty in the kitchen you might try Los Feliz’s Tangier Korean BBQ of Tokyo. Cook your own meat on the table top grills of this confusedly named BBQ joint in the former of Tangier. Eater LA says its the place to eat if you don’t mind the blinding blur of LED lights alongside your kimchi.
  • Yesterday marked the grand opening celebration of  Goodwill’s first Community Enrichment Center at and  store in Glassell Park (the opened for business last month) . Much fanfare met the occasion, reports KCET. On hand was a farmer’s market – which will be back every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. – as well as yoga and zumba classes and career workshops. Shoppers were also treated to discounts at the retail store and the newly opened café, Café G, in celebration.
