EL SERENO — The El Sereno Park  Hot Shots  shined from the beginning  of the Spring GPLA Softball Season in April to the season championships earlier this month.

The championship games was an exciting experience in which the Hot Shots defeated the Blue Jays 8-1 in the championship game to become the 2014 El Sereno Champions, and brought to end an unforgettable, undefeated season with a perfect 12-0 record. The Hot Shots comprised of girl’s ages 12 to 14 and were lead by Head Coach Abel Sanchez and assistant coaches Abel Sanchez Jr and Jacob Silva, as well as team captains Lauren Silva and Carla Hernandez.

This season played at the El Sereno Recreation Center was a memorable one made up of six teams of girls in the surrounding area. Four of the teams being represented were from El Sereno – Park Hot Shots, Angels, Blue Jays and Huskies – and two were from Lincoln Heights – Lincoln Park Swatt and Lady Knights.

Head Coach Abel Sanchez said the hardest part of the season was keeping the girls focused. “It was important to keep the girls focused on each game and not looking ahead. Assistant coach Jacob Silva  said that a key factor in the team’s success was  “building confidence in each girl, knowing that as young women they could accomplish anything in this world, all you have to do is go out and reach for it.”

Team roster consisted of: P-Carla Hernandez, C-Jaclyn Silva, 1B-Lauren Silva, 2B-Angel Amesola, SS-Destiny Martinez, 3B-Denises Rodriguez, CF-Ashley Rojas, LF-Gisselle Somano, RF-Katlyn Gonzalez, OF-Stephanie Haro, RF-Breanna Terzyan.

The Hot Shot girls will  continue their softball careers this fall at several area high schools, including Woodrow Wilson, San Gabriel Mission, Abraham Lincoln, Stern Mass and Esteban Torres High School.

Come out and support our local Hot Shots as they will represent El Sereno Park in the All-Star league going against other district all-stars for the City of Los Angeles GPLA Championship.
