News & Notes:

  • Mayor Eric Garcetti’s “Great Streets” to improve some of the city’s major thoroughfares should focus on stimulating public health and safety, Boyle Heights residents and activists told KPCC. The need to fix broken sidewalks and improve safety “seems more acute” in Boyle Heights since about a quarter of its residents don’t own a car.
  • Law enforcement agencies finally got around to honoring  the memory of Anton Harnischefer, “The Constable of Garvana,” who was killed in the line of duty 125 years ago, according to The Boulevard Sentinel.
