Eastside Weekend: The return of the Lotus Festival; Second Saturday Gallery Night; Talking About Food in Boyle Heights

The Lotus Festival celebrates Asian-Pacific cultures – and Echo Park Lake’s lotus bed.

Looks like the lotus at Echo Park Lake could not wait to bloom for this weekend’s  Lotus Festival,  with many of the aquatic plants having already flowered, leaving behind a  large floating bed of floppy green leaves dotted with the large, remaining pink blooms. Still, it’s an impressive and welcome sight that will greet visitors to the festival after a three-year hiatus and the clean up and renovation of the lake and park.

Other things going on this weekend include Second Saturday Gallery Night across Northeast L.A., a community clean up in Silver Lake and a Boyle Heights panel discussion and walking tour focused on food.   More details and things to do in Eastside Events.

  1. craziest thing: I haven’t been reading the Eastsider very much since I recognized that the comments put me in a perpetually shitty mood. As a result: I had no idea this was even happening until I drove by.
