Shopper & Diner: Guisados too big to be contained by Eastside; Cannabis-centric market lights up Boyle Heights; and summer cool downs courtesy of Eagle Rock shaved ice-ery.

BOYLE HEIGHTS –  The beloved taco shop Guisados has become an Eastside fixture, having added a second shop in Echo Park last year. But now the restaurant’s reputation has spread beyond its Eastside’s confines, says LA Downtown News. Downtown patrons (and wayward Eastsiders, of course) can look forward to a new location coming to the Spring Arcade building.

In other Shopper & Diner news:

  • Speaking of Boyle Heights, this Fourth of July weekend the neighborhood will be taking the farmers market concept to new heights or high. The LA Times reports that a cannabis-centric market debuting today, July 4,  will cater to card-carrying medical marijuana patients can buy direct from growers. The California Heritage Market will be operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • In case you’re feeling hungry, Eagle Rock is touting a new dessert outlet. Snow Station, a shaved ice purveyor, is now officially open, notes Eater LA.
  • From the East Coast to Eastside, New York-based vegan footwear and apparel mainstay MooShoes will be opening up an L.A. location in Silver Lake, reports Racked LA. The boutique, which sells T-shirts and handbags in addition to its shoes, will be opening at 3116 Sunset Boulevard later this fall.

  1. Cannibas-centric or cannabis-centric?

  2. Marni, Silver Lake and Echo Park are not the eastside. I thought we already learned that.

It seems like you’re a little new here, but maybe you can go back and check what the SLNC had to say about it. Thanks!

    • Are you kidding? You should change your name from Angeleno.

    • The SLNC members who thought it necessary to take up the ridiculous issue of what people like to call their neighborhood have been voted out of office. Their replacements are dealing with issues that are important to our lives.

  3. I love all the new great east side eateries we’ve been getting in the last few years! Guisados, for one but some hidden gems like Ricky’s Tacos served out of his truck on Virgil across the street from Von’s in Silver Lake is another great east side eatery everyone should check out! Some of the best fish and shrimp tacos I’ve ever found on the east side!

  4. if Guisados already opened in Echo Park how does opening a new location east of there make any sense with the headline “Guisados too big to be contained by Eastside”

I thought you where gonna say they are opening in Venice or something.
