SILVER LAKEAllesandro Elementary  has been locked down this morning and Riverside Drive has been closed to traffic as authorities investigate a report of a suspicious person on campus.

One woman who drove by the campus shortly before 8:30 a.m. said there were at least half a dozen police cruisers outside of the campus as helicopters hovered overhead. Riverside Drive in front of the school had been blocked to traffic as police sealed off the area, she said.

Officers from the LAPD and LAUSD were inspecting the campus as students remained in classrooms, according to the Los Angeles Schools Police.  Classes at the L.A. Unified campus has resumed on Tuesday.

* Update:  The school is expected to resume operations shortly, according to L.A. Schools Police.  KTLA reports said the lock down was in response to an anonymous phone call from a pre-paid  cellphone.  Similar calls were made on  Tuesday regarding other schools. An LAPD spokeswoman refuted reports that armed suspects were seen on or near the campus.

  1. An Allesandro parent has told neighbors that a person was seen near the campus with a rifle.

Judging by the dozens of police vehicles, it is something serious, even if LAPD will not confirm the rumor.

  2. The second day of school and this happens?

  3. May not be serious.
The thuggish, militarized LAPD love to play with their toys and have near orgasmic moments when they get to say “lockdown!”

    • Thuggish, militarized LAPD????? NOT. Hope you will never need them.

      • “Hope you will never need them.” – Yeah, who wants them doing their job anyways?

If you don’t think we have a militarized police department with a number of thuggish elements, I don’t think you are paying much attention to what’s going on around you.

  4. So happy to hear the helicopters stop. I kept praying, not another Columbine. Please support gun control

  5. Are you nuts? A man with a rifle might be near or entering a school? Of course there should be a ton of police. Glad they are on it!

  6. I heard it was a bearded man with long scraggly hair and dogers ball cap
