Morning Report: Man shot on L.A. River path near Atwater; former Assembly speaker Pérez won’t run in 14th Council District race; public asked to help find driver of fatal Highland Park hit-and-run

News & Notes:

  • A homeless man was shot early this morning along the L.A. River path near Atwater Village. The shooting took place after the victim, who was taken to a hospital for treatment, and another person were confronted by two suspects riding bikes. Fox 11.
  • Former state Assembly speaker John A. Pérez is not interested in running against 14th District Councilman Jose Huizar in next year’s election. Pérez and Huizar have met to discuss a possible endorsement, but Pérez told the L.A. Times that he was not ready to do so at this time.  “He didn’t make a persuasive case.”
  • Police are asking the public to help to find the driver responsible for Sunday night’s fatal hit-and-run in Highland Park. CBS2.
  • A woman jumped off a bridge near First Street and Glendale Boulevard on Monday afternoon. No further details were available about her condition. Rampart Division/Facebook.
