Storefront Report: What did happen to the Echo Park ARCO?

Echo Park Arco being demolished

ECHO PARK — The sudden closure of the  busy ARCO gas station and AM/PM convenience store on Glendale Boulevard and Berkeley Avenue has left many motorists in search of cheaper gas and Fritos.  “Anyone know what happened to the Arco ampm on Glendale?” asked @BeKitchens on Twitter.  “Did the 7-11 kill it?”  Apparently not.

While the station will be demolished, building permits have been issued to build a new service station and an AM/PM convenience store, according to an online summary of city records.

What will the new station look like? Will it feature mosaic murals of mermaids and dolphins like the new United Oil station on Sunset Boulevard or be as glaring as the new Chevron on Echo Park Avenue. Stay tuned.

  1. Anyone who travels north on the 2 Freeway will be pleasantly surprised with the Arco station on the corner of York and Verdugo. It’s never very busy, it’s freeway-close, and the prices are comparable to those of the Arco on Glendale Blvd.

  2. To bad it will be rebuilt. That station, in my opinion, is cause of lots of the craziness at that intersection. The rehab that was done a few years ago at that convergence of Glendale and Alvarado, was a total waste of money

  3. Bummer – this was also a Chase ATM location. Hopefully Chase will find another outpost for their EP customers.

  4. Stick with Union 76 on Sunset and Alvardo. All the streets are a nightmare here in town but it is what it is. It’s too bad that all of the old school stations are gone. 🙁

    • Yes, they just got new owners and it is such an improvement. They are actually friendly! And they are filling up the once practically empty shop with lots of snacks, including Beanfield’s Chips. A vegan option at a gas station? Yes, I am stoked!

  5. In other news the chevron right down the street near glendale and scott suddenly became another 76. Any thoughts on that? Maybe it’s related?

  6. I just hope they will still sell beer there, I drink a steel reserve every morning for the last 13 years

  7. They should close AutoZone bad service ! Rude employees

  8. im upset it has closed and cant wait for it t be rebuild i need my iced coffee and dont want to cross the street to go to 7/11
