SILVER LAKE –– Firefighters this morning responded to a grass and vegetation fire that burned in a hillside area near Lake View Avenue. The blaze, apparently triggered after a  transformer exploded, has been put out but  electrical service has been knocked out in the area.

“Power lines are down on the hill,” said  Silver Lake blogger Diane Edwardson, who reports that power is out on parts of Lake View and Corralitas Drive. “This has happened before; it’s another reason I harp on brush clearance.’

Update: The LADWP reports that more than 500 customers in Silver Lake are without power, according to the utility’s outage information. Service is expected to be fully restored by about 7:30 p.m.

  1. Ain’t got no power, man.

  2. Big thanks to LAFD for the quick reaponse. This could have been very bad if more vegetation had caught fire. 6pm, LADWP has power back on.

  3. Of course a vegetarian fire in Silverlake! What’s next a vegan local sustainable fire app? Will this hipster life never end?
