Bomb squad called to Elysian Valley [update]

ELYSIAN VALLEY — Police have closed Riverside Drive to traffic this morning to allow the LAPD’s bomb squad to inspect a suspicious item that was reported on top of an electrical utility box, said an officer at the Northeast Division Station.  Police began sealing off the area near Riverside Drive and Harwood Street at about 9 a.m.

It’s the third bomb scare in the area in recent weeks.  The bomb squad has been called in to deal with an inert grenade on the 2 Freeway and  a guitar case left on top of a bus shelter at Riverside and Fletcher drives.

*Update:  The streets have been reopened as of 11:30 a.m., according to the Northeast Division.
