EAST LOS ANGELES — Residents of East L.A. got a jump start on the holidays this weekend with the opening of a temporary ice rink at the East L.A Civic Center.   Admission and skate rentals are free today (Sunday, Nov. 23) but come Monday ice skaters will have to pay $7 admission and a $2 rental fee, reports Eastsider contributor C.J. Salgado. Salgado picked up a few details about the rink:

Using a huge “chiller” machine, an icy layer of about 3-4 inches  is formed across the rink floor. Mark, a Recreation Dept. manager, said about 500-1000 visitors are expected. It’s a beautiful day to come out onto the ice and play!

The rink, located at the south end of Belvedere Park, will continue in operation through Nov. 30.

  1. That would be fun to watch. Not a whole lot of ice in Mexico.

  2. This a great idea-something beautiful like this ice rink will bring communities and families together, right around Christmas time. I support this & i actually think that there should be more planning events for all families and community members; the people of East L.A are intelligent, loving, & resilient residents–we need more awesome planning like this one.
