Marionette master Bob Baker dies at age 90

ECHO PARK —  Bob Baker, who entertained generations of Angelenos at his puppet theater on the southern edge of Echo Park, died today at age 90 from kidney failure, according to Associated Press and other news accounts.  Baker passed away as the future of his Bob Baker Marionette Theatre is uncertain, with the property having been purchased by a developer who plans to build housing on the site.

  1. My sisters and I went there for fieldtrips in the ’80s. Since I was so little, the memories of it are vague and surreal.

    I’m glad he was able to keep it up for so long! RIP.

  3. my biggest neighborhood regret is that i never got to see his show. He was truly a local treasure. Please post preservation efforts about his collection. RIP Bob Baker.
