EAGLE ROCK — After long lines of customers formed last April during the final days of Ernie Jr’s Taco House, the large Mexican-American restaurant has been been vacant, its exterior tagged up and the property fenced off. Now, the entire property – a nearly 30,000-square foot lot on Colorado Boulevard next to the 2 Freeway, is up for sale for $4.15 million, according to LoopNet.com.

The 8,400-square-foot building and 40 parking spaces make the site “well suited” for another restaurant, banquet hall or other large retail space, according to the listing. However, the commercial zoning allows “for a myriad of uses.”

Will the classic Ernie Jr’s sign be included in one of those uses? Stay tuned.

  1. My understanding is that the family that owns the property, which is the family that had the restaurant, is hoping to find a developer that will raze the restaurant and put up bungalow-style senior living spaces. Stay tuned for an interesting land use situation!

  2. I’m betting its going to be a huge POS residential development- exactly like every other one shoved into lots in our beloved town. Jose Huisar SUUUUUCKS

  3. The rat size box housing all along Eagle Rock Blvd have definitely ruined the character of the area. Thanks a lot JOSE Huizar. Pro-development is not always in the best interest of a community! STOP the box style housing!!! We need GREEN SPACE and aesthetics that compliment the area.

    • Hahaha! yeah, because Eagle Rock Blvd was SO BEAUTIFUL before… bring back the empty strip malls and abandoned old houses!!! How dare people build new houses, so people can live in our neighborhood, and spend money supporting local businesses.

Our city, of nearly 4 million people, is building some much needed housing in a popular area!!

      Oh the humanity!!!!

  4. Senior living right next to a major freeway exchange. Kinda depressing. Also isn’t there a large senior living complex down the block on the other end of the eagle rock plaza? And to all you Huizar haters, come on down to Gil Cedillo’s district for a sneak preview of what you’ll get if Molina is voted in! Small potatoes politics, long winded whimsical excuses. Not to mention out of control tagging and homeless encampments right next to parks and schools! It’s a delight for the eyeballs, fer sure.

  5. Yeah, ANYBODY is better than Cedillo. Other than a rockin’ jazz festival, Cedillo has done nothing to better our neighborhood. I’ll take Huizar over Cedillo ANY DAY!
