Cypress Park crash shears off fire hydrant

CYPRESS PARK — One man was transported to a hospital tonight after a vehicle crashed into a power pole and fire hydrant, sending a gusher of water into the air. LAFD reported that electrical wires were down and there was some street flooding near the 2600 block of N. Roseview Avenue following the collision, which took place at about 10 p.m.

Crime Check: A bad week for Echo Park vehicle owners

ECHO PARK -- At least 15 vehicles have been broken into or were stolen during the past week in the Echo Park area, according to a review of incidents on CrimeMapping.com between Jan. 29 and Feb. 4. The crimes took place across the area, from Elysian Heights on the north to Angeleno Heights on the south.

Thank You Comics calls it quits in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK -- Thank You Comics will be closing shop at the end of February after opening up on York Boulevard more than 2-1/2 years ago.The final day for new comics will be Wednesday, February 25, according to an email the comic shop sent out Wednesday. “We understand that finding a local comic shop that fits your needs can be difficult and would like to offer you the very same subscription services at our sister-store, The Secret Headquarters, in Silver Lake.”

Atwater vehicle owner warns of catalytic converter thieves

ATWATER VILLAGE — The car alarm on Lindsey Ferguson’s Honda Element went off early Monday morning. What was going on? She soon discovered that thieves had sawed off the catalytic converter from her vehicle while it was parked on Glenhurst Avenue near Glendale Boulevard. It’s the second time Ferguson’s converter has been stolen, and now she wants to warn her neighbors about the crime.
