A modern take on Kansas City BBQ opens in Silver Lake

Storefront ReportSILVER LAKE — A new barbecue spot, Charcoal, on Hyperion Avenue is seeking to be the pitmaster of Silver Lake, reports EaterLA. It replaces the old Lago D’argento Pizzeria and opened this week.

Charcoal touts itself as a modern Kansas City style of barbecue, with chef Jeremy Zimmerman in charge of a 1,700-pounds smoker, according to its website.

From Eater:

Partnered with Anat Escher (Barberella, Bugatta), Zimmerman brings his native Kansas City barbecue featuring slow-smoked ‘cue that takes up to 15 hours to prepare.

The menu offers dinners of pork back ribs, hand-crafted sausages to pork belly confit, and it includes happy hours and brunch. Bourbon-based cocktails abound, like the PD, Brown Sugar and Kentucky Lady.

  1. A KC BBQ restaurant that doesn’t serve burnt ends? Major fail!

  2. The brisket wasn’t good, but the ribs were excellent. They have to figure out the sauce situation. There was not enough of it.

  3. Enjoy your overpriced Bougie-Cue, Silver Lake.

  4. Such an awful place,
BBQ is dry and over cooked.
They should stick to one restaurant rather than diving up the corner into 3 random places, like they are just shooting out random ideas!like a new spot every week,
Welcome to food bazaar my friend we have mongolian bbq pizza with sushi.
Next it will be a falafel spot!

  5. rabble rabble rabble angry hipsters rabble rabble rabble.

  6. Nothing like “authentic” KC pork belly confit.
