Fire burning in Atwater Village [updated]

ATWATER VILLAGE — LAFD reports that a house is on fire on Glenhurst Avenue near Glendale Boulevard this morning. The blaze appears to be burning at the same property where a fire broke out on Glenhurst Avenue in December 2013 amid what firefighters described as “packrat conditions.”

Update at 7:46 a.m.: LAFD says the fire was knocked down after nearly half an hour. No injuries reported. One dog was rescued but another is still missing.

  1. Absolute pack rat house, the owner should be fined. Thanks also to the news crews for flying helicopters over my house for more than an hour this morning.

  2. Eminent domain should be used to tear that dangerous place down. Enough is enough.

  3. Don’t think it’s habitable now. Removal could take a while, red tape.

  4. Second fire in little more than a year? I would NOT want to be living next to them.

  5. easy to see from overhead pictures and videos that they’re total hoarders. Didn’t they’re garage burn down like a year ago?! It was only a matter of time.

  6. Agreed with other comments here – this doesn’t look like a surprise so much as an inevitability given the condition of that “house.”

  7. Can we all say a little “prayer” that the missing dog is okay, as well as hope that these people recover from this fire? I agree that its a hazard and I’ve been concerned many times as I’ve passed by this house, however we never know what someone’s story is, and I’ve often felt sorry for the inhabitants when I’ve seen them. It doesn’t hurt to put a little compassion out into the universe.
