Glendale police standoff attracts attention in Glassell Park

GLASSELL PARK — Streets have been blocked off and a police helicopter has been hovering overhead this afternoon as Glendale police are engaged in a standoff with a man who allegedly struck his brother with a hammer.

Officers are still trying to determine if the man in his early 20s is still inside a home in the 1800 block of Marion Drive in the Adams Hills section of Glendale next to Glassell Park, said Sgt. Tom Lorenz with the Glendale Police Department.  Nearby Ranons Avenue has been blocked off by police, he said.

While the police activity is in Glendale, it certainly has been noticed in neighboring Glassell Park, where residents have reported hearing sirens and helicopters during the afternoon.  One woman said she heard someone on  board the police chopper yell  “SURRENDER. Put down your weapons” from a bullhorn.
