Storefront ReportSILVER LAKE — A new Silver Lake Boulevard sushi restaurant is looking to hire a head sushi chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, reports Eater L.A. But the lack of a head chef did not stop Yakuza Sushi from holding a soft opening on Thursday, according to Yelp.

Per the first Yelp review:

The menu is exciting, and I’m looking forward to exploring it on future visits. The Chef’s special sashimi plates are what set Yakuza apart from other sushi restaurants in Los Angeles. They all sound fantastic, and the one we ordered (Yakuza Ceviche) was the highlight of our meal.

Eventually the Silver Lake restaurant  will also be open for lunch, one employee said.

The building hidden behind bright red screens has been empty for about three years since Reservoir restaurant closed its doors.

  1. Looking forward to this space being filled with some great Japanese food but the name is comically bad. Maybe Alimento should consider renaming to Mafia Italian.

Best of luck to the owners.

  2. Bold move opening without a chef. What have they been doing this whole time?

  3. well it is just slabs of raw fish and a little rice….what could go wrong?

  4. So there’s a “Chef’s Special” but no chef? Lies!

  5. Netty, where are you?

  6. Chef or no chef, I’m not going there until they tear down that wall.

  7. Sadly, the new crap does not last long here. Netty, where are you?

  8. Those were the days my friends.

  9. ‘Yakuza Sushi’….???
Why not call the place ‘Yubitsume Sushi’. This so called sushi restaurant is a spectacle.

  10. What a bunch of whiny little bitchez! These people are trying to do something nice for the neighborhood and all you can do is whine and complain? Let me be the first to tell you to go F yourselves. Ahhh the name is dumb… what an a-hole.

  11. HATERS HATERS HATERS…. You all should try opening your own restaurant. It’s so easy to sit behind your computers and shit all over these people who put a ton of money on the line to open a restaurant. Shame on you!!.

  12. The restaurant does have a chef. LAist saw an old posting and assumed because it was still up, we don’t have a chef. you can find the old sushi chef listings online too, but we have those as well.

We are also open for lunch and have been since Day One.
