Temple Street development chases after Silver Lake cafe society

HISTORIC FILIPINOTOWN -- A new, block-long apartment building now rising on Temple Street is one of several new and proposed residential projects that are seeking tenants priced out of Silver Lake and Echo Park. But the coffee houses, Pilates studios and vegan-friendly restaurants found a few blocks north are in short supply on Temple.

Is this Highland Park’s Car Wash Corridor?

HIGHLAND PARK -- Apparently you can never have too many car washes. The owners of the Shell gas station at Figueroa and Avenue 52 want to get into the car wash cleaning business across the street from two existing car washes. Neighbors and planning commissioners have rejected the proposed car wash but Councilman Gil Cedillo has stepped into the fray, giving the Shell car wash a second chance.
