The ebb and flow of L.A. River wildlife caught on camera

ATWATER VILLAGE -- Biologists with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County have been studying the wildlife that lives and travels along the L.A. River near Atwater Village. Part of their project included setting up trail cameras to capture images of the animals using the river, according to KPCC.

Highland Park gives Starbucks store a second shot

HIGHLAND PARK -- After Monica Alcaraz visited the neighborhood's newly opened Starbucks last summer, she left disappointed from the rather bare bones store. "It was not what I thought we were going to get," said Alcaraz of the York Boulevard outlet that was soon derided as the "most depressing Starbucks in America." But on Tuesday, Alcaraz, who is president of the neighborhood council, was back at the Highland Park store after it was remodeled in response to criticism. "It's a huge difference," said Alcaraz.

Echo Park gets buzzed

ECHO PARK -- What was with the multiple helicopter landings and departures from the top of the Citibank building on Tuesday night? It appeared that the same helicopter kept circling the neighborhood and returning to the top of the Sunset Boulevard office tower, owned by the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, which has its circular insignia painted on the roof of the building.

Silver Lake merchant shot during robbery; police apprehend Highland Park gunman; L.A. Marathon runners to get an early start

MORNING REPORT: The owner of a Silver Lake smoke shop was shot in the leg during an apparent robbery on Tuesday night ... An armed man who ran away from officers in Highland Park Tuesday night was apprehended after police sealed off an area near Figueroa Street and Avenue 57 ... The L.A. Marathon, which will pass through Echo Park and Silver Lake, will start 30 minutes earlier because of record-high heat forecast for Sunday
