ECHO PARK  — The L.A. Marathon got an early start this morning to allow the more than 26,000 runners a chance to beat the record-high heat expected today. The first group of elite runners arrived in Echo Park before 7:30 a.m.

The 26.-2 mile marathon from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica began at 6:55 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than usual, and the event organizers are encourage runners “to strongly consider running at a slower pace than they would normally plan to run a marathon” given the weather.
