ECHO PARK — What was with the multiple helicopter landings and departures from the top of the Citibank building on Tuesday night? It appeared that the same helicopter kept circling the neighborhood and returning to the top of the Sunset Boulevard office tower, owned by the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, which has its circular insignia painted on the roof of the building, making for a nice bullseye for chopper pilots.
“There have been helicopters landing and taking off from the Citibank building since 9:45 pm and it’s almost 11:30 pm now,” said one Eastsider reader via email. “It’s been constant. Is there a law about this? Who would I lodge a complaint with?”
Was the chopper on some training mission in advance of President Obama’s upcoming L.A. visit or was it flying in Echo Park bar and nightclub patrons who didn’t want to bother with parking? An employee in the church’s medial relations department said they had no information about Tuesday night’s helicopter activity, saying the helipad was operated by a separate company. Echo Park residents, however, offered up some theories and complaints as the helicopter buzzed overhead:
Helicopter convention over #echopark tonight. Party in the sky?

Move to Echo Park for the night life. Stay for the late night helicopters. Echo Park: it’s best to not ask follow-up questions.
