Silver Lake apartment fire leaves man in serious condition

SILVER LAKE — A 25-year-old man with second and third degree burns was in serious but stable condition this morning after a fire broke out at a Micheltorena Street duplex, according to the L.A. Fire Department.

The blaze at 1625 Micheltorena Street was put out after about 20 minutes, leaving one unit with extensive damage. The victim suffered burns to his hands but firefighters credit a smoke alarm for alerting the man to the blaze and allowing him to escape.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
