SILVER LAKE — Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze this afternoon that damaged a garage and possibly a residence, according to preliminary information.

No one was injured in the fire that was reported at about 1:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of London Street near the Hollywood Freeway, according to the L.A. Fire Department.  The fire apparently started outside before spreading into the structures, according to early information.

The thick plume of black smoke that rose across Silver Lake was seen across a wide area.

  1. I was watching smoke plume from just East of Alvarado and Kent…Firefighters knocked it down in 17 minutes! Thanks, you guys!

  2. LAFD saved my house! The corner of my roof started to burn & my entire fence went up in flames, but LAFD saved my house, The fire took out 50% of my neighbors house, the back of another property & a parked car all thanks to the UNINSURED property owners at 2800 London Street who put all of us at risk by storing hazardous materials in their rotten out wood garage.

We hope now building & safety might force some action before the other ‘tear down’ structures go up in flames.

    Thank you Engine Company 20!
