Police pursue suspects in Silver Lake shooting [updated @ 7:10 p.m.]

SILVER LAKE — The police pursuit of suspects involved in a shooting in Silver Lake ended in downtown early this evening. The pursuit began after the possible shooting or stabbing near Sunset Boulevard and Benton Way.

Update @ 7:10 p.m.: One person was shot in the leg at about 5:48 p.m. but the injury is not life threatening, said LAPD spokesman Mike Lopez. Officers in a police helicopter that responded to the shooting call observed a car fleeing the shooting scene at a high rate of speed, prompting a police pursuit on the ground. The chase ended near Flower Street and the 110 Freeway, where three suspects were taken into custody. Lopez said police were still trying to figure out what prompted the shooting.

  1. That’s the corner smoke shop. Nicest guy. Family man. Horrible he got robbed and shot. Thank god it was a leg wound and he will be alright. But man, this is terrible.

    • Why we need the good citizens to have the right to carry handguns , because the criminals will always have them anyway

      • … Unless it’s relatively difficult to get them, in which case they won’t, because they might not even be criminals because they don’t have guns.

      • Hey, you can go ahead and pull out your gun in a confrontation if you want…but you’re much more likely to die that way. Math doesn’t lie.

      • He could have gone for his gun and ended up dead. Who knows?
Or pulled a gun, shot at the robber, and missed, hitting a customer.
If a criminal always has a gun, then all they have to do is get the drop on you / pull it when you are not looking. And if they assume you have a gun, they may just shoot to kill.
The best thing to prevent crime is like here, where the criminal is quickly caught.

  2. OMG! I go there all the time. The owner of the smoke shop is a lovely man. He helps out the local homeless people too. I’m shocked to hear he was shot & robbed but thankful it wasn’t fatal.

  3. My son was robbed near there at gunpoint. Nice young Latino teens with a gun.
