ECHO PARK —  About 2,600 L.A. DWP customers in the Echo Park area have lost power this afternoon, according to an agency spokesman. The outage, first reported around 3:30 p.m., has disrupted electrical service to a wide swath of the neighborhood, ranging from Laguna Avenue near Echo Park Lake to Park Drive next to Elysian Park.

L.A. DWP spokesman Albert Rodriguez had no information about what caused the outage. He said the agency typically restores full service within eight to nine hours but did not have any specific for today’s outage.

Some Twitter users said they heard an explosion just before the power out. @PMAC999 reports that yellow caution tape has been placed around some electrical wires near Echo Park Avenue and Avalon.

Update: Power was restored at 6 p.m., according to LADWP.

  1. The explosion happened exactly at 5 pm. I don’t know where you got 3:30 unless there was an earlier one. A neighbor found a melted mylar balloon just under a power line on lemoyne st.
