Suspect arrested after gunfire hits bus in Echo Park area

ECHO PARK  — Police said they have arrested a man after a Metro bus came under fire this afternoon as it traveled along the border of Echo Park and Silver Lake, leaving the driver injured.

The southbound Metro bus was struck by a single gunshot at about 2:50 p.m. near Coronado Street and Bellevue Avenue, according to the L.A. County Sherriff’s Department, which handles security for the Metro system.  It’s not known whether the driver, who  suffered a minor injury  to his left temple, was grazed by a bullet or hit by glass from the shattered windshield.

“The bus operator did not know he was injured until passengers pointed out that he was indeed bleeding from the head,” according to an LASD announcement.

The driver was transported to a hospital for treatment; no passengers were injured.

A 24-year-old Latino male identified by a witness as being involved in the shooting was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. and booked on suspicion of a assault with a deadly weapon.

The bus was transporting passengers on Metro’s 603 line, which travels from the Glendale Galleria to L.A. Trade Tech.

  1. Right at our corner, down the block from Temple Street’s fortress.

  2. I am so sick of these hipsters and their gun violence! If only they respected education, and didn’t squirt out 5 kids by the time they were 20 maybe they’d have better choices the to engage in violence. Man, these white people are really making life tough here in Echo Park, and I haven’t even mentioned the diapers they leave all over the lake!

    • Your racist rant fails to point out the reason this type of violence exists is [because of] the frustration of the Latino being pushed out of their neighborhood by you white folk(?)! If you are looking for a reason for this, look in the mirror, pilgrim.

      • So the violence is a justified reaction to gentrification? Well just so you know its a lot of latinos selling real estate to “white folk” so if you wanna do something about that why not talk to them and ask them not to profit from the rising real estate market and set aside some apartments for lower income families? While white privilege is alive and well and is unfair, to blame middle income white people for simply buying houses they can afford is ridiculous and racist. Hispanics are much more likely to drop out of school, and much more likely to get pregnant during their teens. If you don’t think this has an impact on displacement then your kidding yourself. We can all work together to help all our friends and neighbors in Echo Park but bigots have no place.

      • I bought a house in Echo Park, I’ve lived here for 10 years and saved during that time. Is that long enough for you? Or am I still an outsider? I don’t come from money, I strongly oppose the gang injunction, I recognize white privilege is a very real thing, can I live in Echo Park without being blamed for all it’s issues? When will the militant and angry ( and stupid quite frankly) bigots of Echo Park figure out that blaiming white people is just completely missing the point about the unfairness’s in our society? Stupid fucks.
