EAST LOS ANGELES -- Four-year-old Emilio ran back and forth between the water faucet and his garden plot at Saturday’s grand opening of the Eastmont Community Garden. Like a seasoned gardener, he kept busy filling a watering can to quench the dry soil where he’d previously planted strawberries, tomatoes, and chili plants. While the L.A. River is poised for a billion-dollar restoration, the nearby Arroyo Seco seems almost forgotten as it runs down a narrow slit along the 110 Freeway through Northeast L.A. But a feasibility study now underway may eventually lead to a restoration of the Arroyo Seco as well.
